Yes! Abbeville Boys! Nice work.

Here are two Battle of Britain items that I own and can be seen in the screen shots.
1. A German Luftwaffe Officer's visor cap.

2. A 1940 dated RAF pilot's flying helmet.

Cliffs of Dover is very accurate in it's flight clothing depictions.

Nice pictures Larry. I think they'd look better though if you reduced them in size by about 50%, so they fit the page better.

Here are some examples I downloaded and re-sized.

Hi MB_Avro_UK
They say the best things come in small packages and that definatly applies to The Kent Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkinge
Me and Plt Off JRB Meaker went their last Summer and it was amazing,
it is with out a doubt one the best aviation Museums
I have been to[including Hendon & Duxford] the exhibits and Artifacts from these Brave Men on both sides
is second to none and if you have any interest in the Battle of Britain THIS IS A MUST to visit But dont Bring a camera.[due to Artifact theft in the past that have been carried out to order, photography is NOT allowed inside the Museum]
Its only less than 10 Miles from where I live so I feel another visit coming on:cool:
Thanks for the heads up Buddy
Regards
Keith;)

MB_Avro_UK 05-13-2014 07:45 PM

Hi Keith,

I was there with my wife about four years ago. We stayed in a Folkestone hotel on the sea-front (CoD's rendition of the town is surprisingly accurate:wink:) and the next day headed for the museum.

It was blisteringly hot day! The museum is run by enthusiasts/ volunteers and has no Government help. What a surprise!!

It occupies about all that is left of Hawkinge airfield. The rest is a modern housing estate. And a very impressive museum it is. The camera ban is counter productive in my view. More photos = more publicity = more visitors = more money. Anyway, that's my untried financial equation...

There's a pub nearby that pilots during the Battle of Britain used to frequent. It now has many photos and models. I wasn't driving, so I managed a few in honour of the Few.

We've been to Dover many times and stayed locally. You can't beat the cliff top views. On a bad day, you can see France...:wink:

Best Regards,
Bob.

I was there (Hawkinge airfield & BoB museum) in 1992 while i was learning english in Hastings.

I was looking for the places where the famous FOX pictures where made on 29.July 1940 on the Hawkinge airfield (men & planes of 32 Sqn + 610 Sqn.).

Now I`m very glad I made this, because now the place are not the same anymore.

But the BoB Kent Museum is great, and i`m looking foreward to visit again someday!

Yeah,I know:roll:
Boris keeps bleeting on about plans for Thames Estuary Airport near the Isle of Grain
which is in a conservation area and a Bird Sanctuary not to mention the SS Richard Montgomery, the WW2 partially Sunken Liberty ship in the mouth of the Thames Estuary which is ladden with 1500 Tonnes of Explosives which is so volatile a 2 Mile exclusion zone has been set up around it,According to a BBC news report, it was determined that if the wreck of Richard Montgomery exploded, it would throw a 1,000-foot-wide (300 m) column of water and debris nearly 10,000 feet (3,000 m) into the air and generate a wave 16 feet (5 m) high. Almost every window in Sheerness would be broken and buildings would be damaged by the blast.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...Mongomery.jpeg
Map of the Thames Estuary with locations of proposed airports. 1. Cliffe; 2. Grain (Thames Hub); 3. Foulness; 4. Off the Isle of Sheppey; 5. Shivering Sands ("Boris Island").

Manston would have been the perfect choice,Pupose built, low impact on local communities and wildlife as well as a long runway to accomodate Large Airliners as
well as being better located for transport links to London.
Makes no sense closing it down

Guten morgen ContinuO,

Excellent Blenheims Larry!!

In 1940, life was shorter for Blenheim crews than Spitfire and Hurricane pilots.

High Altitude

Most of the fighting took place at high altitude.

Cliffs of Dover makes a good simulation of this aspect.
