Thanks Dozer. I have yet to leave how to weld and am in the middle of either moving back to Oregon or moving to a 1 bedroom apartment here in Kodiak. As soon as I get this settled down, I want to learn how to weld. I try to do everything myself, or with someones help.

all you need is a $100 arv welder for bar work and some scrap to practive on. If you can angle grind you can weld, does not have to look pretty, as long as its strong ugly does not matter hahaha

arc hahaha i havent used one of them for a while :) a decent gas/gasless mig would be a good investment

for bar work i much rather the arc welder for better steel penetration. I find that mig welds tend to crack before the pipe bends.

Ive got a good gas mig welder from cigweld and find its better used for exhaust, body sheet work ect than heavy applications.

A good weld from a arc welder will see the pipe bend before the weld cracks.

My budget is slim right now. Once I get things together i'll start learning

mmmmm,i weld trailer hitch plates with 400amp migomags and i can safly say the plate would bent apart befor the weld cracked.

you need at least a 200amp mig to get good welds

yeah id agree with that but from his point of view and lack of money i can see he does not have that sort of $$$$ laying around for a quallity mig that can do the job. But you can get a good arc cheap as that will do the job 100%
