The fog was beautiful, a testament to Oleg's keen eye for such things. You almost get a queasy stomach, like those men must have had, as they approached their aircraft in the early morning.

RAF Petrol Fires
Hi all,
The Spitfire and Hurricane both had petrol tanks in front of the cockpit. The Me 109 had a petrol tank behind the pilot's seat. Many of the RAF fighter pilots during the Battle of Britain suffered terrible face and hand burns from this petrol tank. http://ob1-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/...vercoming.html http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse60135d7.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8fb8bcbf.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psaaed461f.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4b218cc0.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf1f5b927.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf4b921ac.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps99389892.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psd4041ba1.jpg http://ob1-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/...vercoming.html Best Regards, MB_Avro |

I am trying not to be negative, it just seems an odd situation to me, the pilot on the other side of the plane would be obvious, but on this side, I wonder why he's there. I think it was usual for the RAF to enter their planes from the left side of the plane, but with the way the cockpit of the '109 opened, the Luftwaffe had almost no choice, they had to climb in from the left. |
